Saltaire Arts Trail
The heritage of Saltaire is built on the twin pillars of textiles and contemporary art. Built in the 1850s by the textile manufacturer Titus Salt, Saltaire was a powerhouse of the late Industrial Revolution. In 1987, having slid into decline, Salts Mill was bought by the local entrepreneur Jonathan Silver and turned into a vast gallery housing the world’s largest permanent collection of the work of David Hockney, saving the mill from demolition. In 2001, in recognition of its history and architecture, Saltaire gained World Heritage status. Saltaire Inspired wants to use this heritage as our inspiration, embedding the Arts Trail in this rich and unique historical context.
Over the next couple of years, we want the Arts Trail to become a celebration of art and textiles bringing you work by practitioners with national and international reputations, as well as the finest art and craft from across Yorkshire. It is our intention to team up with organisations and institutions from across Bradford and beyond to create exhibitions, events, workshops and talks to challenge, delight and inspire you.
“Best arts festival in Yorkshire!”
